Credit Suisse was a shit-house that should have been allowed to go bust in 2008.

The American thing is different. It appears to be a case of some banks following Hollywood's example of 'get woke, go broke'

*not sure Credit Suisse.

To add the UK banks don’t seem to that exposed but the ECB is. This is worry as the BoE has said it could have a knock on effect.

Re: Credit Suisse
I don’t think this is a repeat of 2008. Unemployment is still globally pretty low. Not Credit Suisse is in a position to pay this loan off. It’s highly leveraged and investors are closing their accounts with them and moving premarily to UBS. A UBS takeover is more prudent

Maybe they could.

They could probably buy me a spell-checker while they're at it; would be one of their better investments, by far..

Re: Credit Suisse
Methinks that western governments & financial institutions are rather over-egging the omelette with their claims that everything is hunky dory on the banking front.

I suspect that there's a "too big to fail" financial institution on the brink of meltdown and all the stops are being pulled out to keep that fact away from the news.

Who do I feel it is? Well, Deutch Bank's been floundering like a catfish in a drought for a while, so...

“These banks are badly run because everybody is focused on diversity and all of the woke issues and not concentrating on the one thing they should, which is, shareholder returns,” Marcus said.

“Instead of protecting the shareholders and their employees, they are more concerned about the social policies. And I think it’s probably a badly run bank.

“They’ve been there for a lot of years. It’s pathetic that so many people lost money that won’t get it back.”

So what is it - are they evil blood-sucking liberals or just not very good at evil blood-sucking capitalism?

Re: Credit Suisse
The larger US banks should not be in the position that SVB found themselves in. They have to to perform rigorous Stress testing by federal mandate so that they can prove they have adequate capital in the face of various scenarios or external economic shock factors. Smaller banks do not have to abide by many of these regulatory obligations so I think we might see this more as a crisis in the smaller regional banks at least here in the US. Credit Suisse have been plagued by various problems for years so this makes them more vulnerable than others.
